WID-MI STEM program is gearing up for our annual high-school STEM event held on Pi Day, March 14, 2019!
This year, we have planned a unique and exciting U.S. Defense STEM trailer day at Metro Beach in Macomb County. Each branch of the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard) will be represented, bringing their STEAM or education trailer. It is certain to be a memorable and engaging day for all students that attend.
After all, it is a fact that currently there is a technical and skilled trades worker shortage in Michigan and throughout our nation. Further, most high school, college, and university students admit that they don't know what they want to do or how to pursue their career path. WID-MI would like to help change this by offering the full life cycle of career education by inspiring students, presenting ideas, demonstrating skills needed for jobs, and offering the opportunity to talk to schools which offer curriculums needed for their career. For this reason, during our innovative STEM event, students will have the opportunity to speak to inspiring men and women with careers in the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Cost Guard, and National Guard.
Students will also have the chance to meet with industry partners who design, engineer, and manufacture the materials that keep our soldiers safe and provide equipment needed for routine tasks.
Through your participation, we would like to encourage the high-school students to think outside of strictly civilian career paths and tangibly grasp what the US Defense industry has to offer in terms of service, leadership, and adventures that they never dreamed of.
