Women in Defense – Michigan Chapter to Honor Colonel (Ret.) Patricia Sellers for Excellence in Leadership

August 2016

ROCHESTER, MI – Colonel (Retired) Patricia Sellers has been selected to receive the 2016 Women in Defense-Michigan (WID-MI) Excellence in Leadership Award. This prestigious award recognizes women who have made significant contributions to U.S. defense and national security throughout their careers. Sellers will be honored at the WID-MI Eighth Annual Black Tie Gala, a Masquerade Ball, to be held on October 21 at the Royal Park Hotel in Rochester.

Over her 28-year career, Sellers served in a variety of operational units in the United States, Germany, Korea, and Iraq. Highly decorated, including the Legion of Merit and two Bronze Star Medals, she led units from platoon leader to battalion command level as well as serving on the Army Staff. Sellers retired from the Army in 2015 and is currently the business development manager for tracked combat vehicles, robotics, and autonomous systems at General Dynamics Land Systems.

The Masquerade Ball will also honor industry leaders and young women entering science, technology, engineering, and math educational programs through the Horizon Industry Awards, Junior Horizon Awards, and Horizon Scholarships.

  • The Horizon Industry Awards recognize defense and national security professionals who distinguish themselves in their field and help their organizations achieve critical business objectives and goals.
  • The Junior Horizon Awards encourage high school women to pursue Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States.
  • The Horizon Scholarships also encourage women to pursue careers related to national security and defense as well as provide development opportunities to women already working in these fields. To date, $100,000 scholarships have been awarded.

WID-MI is accepting applications until the beginning of September for each of these awards. For more information or to nominate an outstanding Michigan woman, visit www.wid-mi.org.
