Women In Defense Michigan established the HORIZONS-Michigan Scholarship in 2009 to encourage women to pursue careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States, and to provide development opportunities to women already working in these fields. From program inception to date, over $100,000 in scholarships have been awarded.

"The WID Horizons Scholarship has been irreplaceable in the benefit I have received. The scholarship took a large amount of stress of myself and my family, with the relief that followed I was able to better focus on school and finishing my college career on a strong note."
"The Women In Defense-Michigan Chapter not only supported my dreams and ambitions as a professional in national defense but showed me the importance of community. Without this award, I would have been discouraged from attending school. To me, re-ceiving this award means that someone has faith in me and an interest in my success. I take this act of kindness very seriously and it inspires me to deliver outstanding results, whether in school, the community, the military, or at work. Knowing that I have been recognized for my hard work and dedication motivates me to continue to push my limits and be a positive member of society."
"I am extremely grateful to the recipient of the 2015 WID-MI Horizons Scholarship, and to represent Women in Defense. As a senior at Western Michigan University, studying geospatial technology, receiving the scholarship was a great help for financing my final year of undergradu-ate studies. I plan to continue on to graduate school, and I am thankful for the support from the WID-MI chapter."
"Words will never begin to express the gratiude I feel for the Woman in Defense-Michigan Chapter. The scholarship that I am honored to possess will bring me a step closer to living out my dreams. Nothing gives me greater satisfation than to care for and help individuals that have experienced traumatic events. I want to thank you for the positive influence you have had in my life and believing in my work as a social work student."
