WID Matters
The video opens with a golden background and the words, “WID Matters.” Upbeat pop music plays in the background.
Various photos appear, showing Women in Defense (WID) Michigan (MI) members at various events. These depict networking events, the WID MI golf outing, a holiday party, award ceremonies, and sponsored events.
Sue Tellier, President of WID MI, begins to speak.
Sue: “So obviously, there’s a ton of people here tonight because they recognize how important it is to keep women in the Defense Industrial Base, and I know personally that we have people in the room who invited their high-school-aged daughters or their young daughters so that they could see role models and they can see examples of women who are doing something that they might want to do eventually as well. We have scholarship recipients here who we are encouraging with our dollars to stay in our industry and to make sure that they’re going to Michigan Universities and going into STEM careers. Everyone in this room recognizes why that matters.”
The words, “Connections Matter: Professional development and networking.” This is followed by photos of WID MI members at professional and networking events, like the Small Business Summit, WID MI Golf Outing, and more.
The next title is “Support Matters: Advancing women leaders in government, defense, and national security.”
The next shots hows sponsor logos. Partners include NDIA Michigan, Association of the United States Army, and AFA. Annual Sponsors include Macomb County Michigan, Systems X, BAE Systems, Rehmann, and Rheinmetall.
The next title reads, “Development Matters: Mentoring for established professionals and middle school girls through college-aged women.”
The next screen reads, “The Future Matters: Our Pi Day program is approachable, fun, and crafted to inspire curiosity and confidence in the world of STEM.” This is followed by photos of the Pi Day program. They feature female students engaging in STEM learning through hands-on activities.
The next title is, “Education Matters: Educational development of young women in technological fields in support of STEM.”
A scholarship recipient begins to speak from off camera.
Scholarship Recipient 1: “Because I’m an engineer, I actually wound up doing the math, and the folks over there (at WID MI) have saved me well over 150 hours of work at my part-time job. For me, this is a phenomenal opportunity because it frees up so much time for me to better focus on my studies and engineering-related extracurriculars.”
The screen reads, “9 Young Women, $18,750 Scholarships.”
Another scholarship recipient begins to speak off camera.
Scholarship Recipient 2: “What the scholarship means to me is that it’s helped me get involved in the defense industry and learn more about the different careers and different aspects I can get involved in.”
The screen reads, “Financial assistance for higher education through school and college scholarships.”
Scholarship Recipient 1: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the Michigan Chapter of Women in Defense.”
The golden title screen with “WID Matters” reappears before fading to black.
